Pretty Little Snow Flakes
70This morning, looking through the window pane,
Watching snowflakes falling from the inane;
I could sense an aura of peace and quiet all around,
With no honking and buzzing in the background.
It was nothing short of a miracle,
Seeing the tired and wearisome earth so blissful;
Wrapped up in a sheet of celestial white,
Quietly resting under the icy comforter.
I knew the scenic splendor was short lived,
And the white turf would soon disappear;
It would seep into the bosom of the earth,
Melting in the heat underneath, waiting for its rebirth.
Losing its identity but still dancing in mirth,
The rocky ice would sink deep in the earth;
Changing into water and saving the world from dearth,
Pacifying the heat below, while gushing along the inner girth.
Taking a long serpentine course,
The water beneath, would turn into a natural resource;
Finding its way up through the cracks, it finally would emerge,
Erupting out of the surface, hot springs would surge.
Wonder how life would be without water,
When Sun gets stronger and the air around, hotter;
With a dry mouth, parched lips and no tears left,
We would regret for not saving the greenbelt.
Nature has blessed us with countless bounties,
To stop abusing it, should be our prime duty;
Let's unite to save the resources from depletion,
Be it deforestation or ground water exploitation.

Anjali: Its nice to see the poet in you, I enjoyed reading your poem; and like Dohn the twist caught me by surprise. Its an important message for us all! I was just mentioning to a friend of mine that I miss the snow in NY; not having to walk on ice, but the beauty and silence that a snow covered earth can give us.
Thanks for adding beauty to my quiet evening. :)
Hugs
Wonderful poem and the pics remind me of some of Ansel Adams' work. Thanks!
Hi Anjali,
Thanks for sharing this beautiful treasure trove of pictures and wisdom in such a poetic way. I'm glad your poem had a twist. We really need to hear this message and not just hear it but be an ative part of saving the planet for future generations!

"I could sense an aura of peace and quiet all around,
With no honking and buzzing in the background".
this is how I felt during the blizzard that we had in Maryland.there is a certain peace that comes about with the snow and when it changes form and becomes water once again it is a plus.
What a wonderful poem. And a great way to use poetry. Nature is all a gift and how we use/abuse it says much about us. Very good. The pictures were a nice touch.

I enjoyed your photos, but enjoyed the poem even more so. I was a bit surprised as the poem took an unsuspecting turn (which is great by the way). There is a certain serenity that comes with snowfall. At present, we just got hit with a snow storm! I liked your views of conservation and awareness and wholeheartedly agree. Thanks for sharing this.
