I’m not going to start off by sharing with you, some million-times-thrashed-out, money making strategies with Google Adsense. Assuming that you already have read tons of published material on this subject and gained expertise in optimizing and tweaking your web pages for getting your share of adsense earnings, it won’t be a bad idea to show you how some people are taking advantage of the rising popularity of adsense and scamming people thereby, especially the novices. In the process of reading hundreds of articles on ‘making money with adsense’, I stumbled on a video, the content of which was as shocking as would be its implications. I’m sure you would be as startled as I was, after you watch it. Possibly, you would even stop trusting any of those ‘money making’ promises which are openly and brazenly sold on the internet. I insist that you watch till the end, as the ‘real game’ begins in the last few seconds. You’ll miss an interesting piece of web technology, if you don’t watch the whole of it. For watching it you'll have to click on the link below as it has been taken from a website not supported by Hubpages, as a result of which I could not upload it here. Without wasting any more time, let’s begin.

Now let’s have a look at the ‘Adsense Treasure’ website. Promising thousands of dollars every month and making it look as if it runs on an autopilot. You can go vacationing with your family for six months in a year and money will still keep flowing into your account. Wow! I wish that was for real. Who would have liked to work in case such things were possible? On the contrary, as easy as it sounds, home based businesses are more demanding and time consuming as compared to regular jobs. You end up losing all your leisure time as that’s the time when your mind keeps struggling to devise novel techniques for making your website more popular and search engine optimized. And yes, did I forget to mention ‘adding new content’ and ‘pulling traffic’ to your website?
Speaking of ‘Adsense treasure’ (stated above), the whole advertising content is designed so cleverly that one can easily fall prey to it. You purchase the package for a promotional price (another gimmick), register a domain in your name and pay for the hosting charges as well, thinking that the website is going to make money on its own. Very soon you realize that the website has to be promoted and popularized like any other website and for that you have to work by the sweat of your brow in order to pull traffic to it. Assuming that you achieved the target of attracting visitors to it, you come face to face with another glaring and disappointing factor; the bounce rate is 90%. Why is that so? Just because the content sucks! There is nothing in it which can keep the visitors glued to it or compel them to come back. Result? Your website, on which you spent months on devising ‘traffic strategies’, fails miserably. Instantly you get reminded of the lifetime support which you had been promised by the company (Adsense treasure or whatever it is) at the time of selling you the package. You send e-mails to them (as no contact phone numbers are available) one after the other. What happens? Nothing…absolutely nothing. It’s not difficult to see that they have forgotten you. If you’re lucky, you might get an e-mail from them asking for the proof of the purchase transaction through their company and when you send them the receipt (if you’re lucky enough to have retained it), there is a long silence again. Rest assured, this time it’s a permanent one. You know what you have to do. Forget about the money you spent and stop wasting your time further on that dead website. Move on!

Now let’s have a look at another video. This man also, proudly, shows his adsense earnings publicly. I sometimes wonder if a person earning that kind of money (from any source) would, at any time, make it open to public. At least I wouldn’t. (At this juncture, let’s not bring into picture those companies which have to, legally and as a matter of policy, reveal their earnings and stocks to public) This company does not rely on adsense totally, and has cleverly integrated ‘marketing’ and ‘website building’ strategies in the package, so offered. I leave it for you to assess how much potential they have (as I did not try this one out, like I did the ‘Adsense’ one) and how much they are actually capable of delivering in return of the money you pay them.

I never really believed all those claims and its interesting to see how the numbers can be edited so easily to whatever they like. Confirmation at least that most of the claims simply are not true.
I was scammed by an Ebay Dropship program. It looked very authentic; they sent me the brochures by regular mail with a welcome letter and it was very professionally done; once they got my card number, they continued to debit my account monthly, with no products available to dropship. Had to cancel the card. I won't be surprised if they are still doing the scam even after they were reported.

Once upon a time, when I was a "newbie", I was almost floored by the promise of "passive income" through adsense. Good for me that I soon realized that it is not as passive as it sounds.

Most of us have realized (perhaps by being scammed more than once) that these programs are too good to be true. One has to be careful. If I don't exaggerate, everyday there might be thousands of innocent people falling in the trap of these scamsters and there is nothing we can do to stop it except creating awareness.

Great hub, thank you! 'Passive income' is, in my experience, a big lie. There is nothing 'passive' about Adsense revenue--You have to work your butt off developing content and tweaking things and then you're only successful some of the time. It's really sad all the scams that are out there, but I think a good rule of thumb in general is, "if it sounds too good to be true, that's probably because it is."
In my life it has always seemed that when someone finds a way to make money quickly and easily that the last thing they want to do is let anyone else know how they did it.
Having said that, there ARE ways to make money by providing a service or product on your own that people want, but you have to work very hard to build up a client base and doing it over the internet is often not the best way. I used to have my own little gardening business for example. All I did was tack up a flier at a local garden center. There is always more work that there are people to do that kind of work, but it's WORK. You have to actually WORK. lol! I currently make a little money writing, but if I averaged out my hours and figured it as an hourly wage, it would probably depress me. I work very hard and the pay is not fabulous.
Most things are like that.
Hi Pam: We all are sailing in the same boat. When I started trying online businesses one by one, I realized that nothing seemed to turn out the way the advertisers claimed. It eventually takes all your time and then (as you said) your effort does not commensurate with the dollar amount you get at the end of the month.

Its true to make money with adsense one needs to get tons of targeted traffic who convert, the reason business pay so much money for a adwords ad is because they want people to buy or sign up for what they are selling. As publishers we benefit by having these ads on our sites or blogs only if we can provide relevant content and get enough targeted and relevant traffic who really want what the ads offer.
I agree that some marketers are exploiting newbies by telling them they can become millionaires by doing nothing or as they say on autopilot but like pgrundy said it takes lots of work its not a easy street formula. It takes work to find a niche topic and then to provide content for that niche and then get viral traffic to that content and then to keep providing more content to readers, that takes time effort and consistency, it will not happen over night and the many marketing gurus who are making millions of dollars, have been at this stuff for at least 10 years and now can afford to outsource the work to others as well as they have the big bucks to re-invest back into advertising and search marketing such as adwords or yahoo search.

Research Analyst: I agree with you. I mentioned in my hub as well that one needs to sweat out to make it work. It's not as simple as it is projected. At least the 'Adsense' thing is not fake (compared to other online work-at-home jobs); one just needs to be careful while dealing with the advertisers who take the help of techno-savy professionals to dupe innocent people.

We work on content, we work on getting the ads blended in, on affiliate programmes and on getting traffic. It is fortunate that we enjoy it - and even more fortunate that we have other sources of income. Why? the sad truth is that we hardly earn enough to buy peanuts.

2patricias: I understand what you're saying. I discovered soon enough that unless we really love adding content to our website, we will never be able to continue with such projects for a long time. This is because the primary motivational factor (money) is missing here. So, the only driving force in case of adsense program can be the 'love for it'.

It's amazing how easy it is to look like an instant millionaire by changing your adsense account with just a little code.With my new understanding, I will never look at outrageous earning claims the same way again. You got to be careful as every program seems lucrative. In fact I would like you to share your experience here in case you have anything important to tell other people about his programs. The program itself is a huge scam. You risk having your site banned by google as every copy I have seen of this site has the same content.
On the upside, I have taken his template and modified it, built in SEO techniques by re writing the content to a lesser degree but with optimum traffic driving techniques. So far it works quite well. I would encourage anyone who is wanting articles to blog about to look for free copies of this program (yes there will be free copies) and modify the content so it looks original.
I guess one could ask if I feel bad about telling people to search for it and get a boot legged copy, I say No, the whole package is a scam, duplicate content will get you banned.

Your welcome Anja. Unfortunately any "plug n play" adsense software which has pre designed landing pages needs to be dealt with with a very long stick. Some people will try to get around duplicate content by adding iframes thinking they can trick google. Once again if someone needs to engage in this type of behaviour to sell a product then stay well clear.

However, the problem is that these scams are always short lived and by the time innocent people come to know of the reality, the scamsters disappear from the scene with loads of money in their pocket. Even worse, it's people like you and me who get slammed by Google with penalties as the websites run around our names and not under the names of the scamsters who create these spoofs. Agreed, and it's completely fair and in my opinion great that google does put in such strict rules. It keeps a leveled playing field for everyone. I know alot of people think they can find products online which can make them easy money. It's not like that at all, in fact adsense is one of the hardest ways to make alot of money online as you need alot of pages or blogs monetized to make a reasonable return. Then lets not forget they need to be built to attract traffic and one of the biggest mistakes I see some people do is having adsense on a selling page....why would you want to send someone somewhere else for the price of click when your trying to sell them a product worth alot more.....anyways I'm starting to rant as I can get quite passionate about internet marketing. Norm: Its flattering, in fact, to have you back. I have read about accounts being shut down / banned by Google.for the reason of violations. As you said its not easy to earn money from Adsense. Here on Hub pages I've noticed that people start earning after a period of a year or more of opening an a/c and that too after posting hundreds of hubs. So ...you've to sweat it out to earn a couple of hundred dollars monthly from adsense. :) Not as simple as it sounds!
Nope not simple at all to earn money from adsense. Beginners are better off learning effective blogging on well established websites like hub, wordpress, iiabblog etc. If they understand web design then I would say build a website and learn how to direct free traffic to it which in itself includes blogging.
The secret to effective internet marketing or making money off the internet is multiple streams of income. I know alot of people on here would have heard that expression before but not alot of people apply it effectively, especially people who try to make a single living from adsense. They spend hours, which turn into days which then into a couple of weeks just trying to make a few hundred webpages which then get no traffic because they didn't learn the very basic principles of driving traffic. Then they end up quitting and lose all that time and money into what they've tried to accomplish. It's sad to watch.
Norm: It seems you know a lot about traffic strategies, Would you like to share a few techniques here besides SEO, traffic exchange and article marketing as these are much talked about in the internet world. Anything over and above these?
Tell you what, I'll give you a couple. One which costs you nothing the other for PPC. Both you would know quite well as you seem like you've been in the business for awhiles but these are great tips for newbies.
1. Once you've done your niche and keyword research go to google and type in the keywords or words you plan on using. I limit my websites down to 3 keywords only, which also happen to be my title and also description. I take the keyword which creates the most revenue and google it. I then take the top ranking site and input that into google with the syntax inurl: - example would be inurl:nike.com (this is example don't try to compete with them haha). Google will for the mot part filter down your search to only sites backlinking to their site. What this does is gives you an idea of what websites they've used to help create their rankings. It also propvides you a chance to find new sites you can use to promote other sites you may already have built. This is one of my favourtie techniques to see how my competition is driving traffic to their site.
2. This is a PPC stratergy.
Alot of people like to use Google adwords for their PPC campaigns or Yahoo or MSN. The reason people do this is because they believe they drive the most traffic to their site which is not entirely correct. Smaller PPC providers like pageseeker or exoclick can drive just as much traffic at alot less the cost. Major keywords on Adwords may cost you upwards of $5-$20 per click. You can sit down and experiment with landing pages and see which ones will send you the most traffic and the lowest price possible but I see no reason for that when I can get more traffic for alot less using smaller PPC providers. For a new site I've just made I can drive more traffic over 4 PPC providers to my website than I can through only adwords. What would only get you 7-10 clicks through adwords could now get you between 20-25 clicks.

These scammers target the NEWbies who know nothing about online business (online scams)...I was scammed more than once...and again you are right that we can do at least to CREATE AWARENESS because the numbers of these online scammers keep on INCREASING day by day. If GOD would execute JUSTICE on these online CHEATERS and FRAUDSTERS, what would support their family (if they have one) or themselves?. I know even these cheaters have the GUTS to feed their OWN FAMILY by the earnings from their CHEATING and EVIL work. These people have lost their CONSCIENCE, the GOOD that was placed by GOD in the hearts and minds of people.

Hi Prem! This is a really old hub. Thanks for bringing it back to life. :) In fact I had uploaded an Adsense spoof here which HP recently made me remove for some reasons. That was worth watching. That spoof alone attracted so many comments. Surprisingly, the person who had developed that spoof posted a comment here and that was a little awkward for me because I had already said so much against such practices. I didn't delete his comment because he was a sport. Anyways. Not much of a say when it comes to HP terms & conditions. Thank you Prem for always being there. :)
This is an interesting hub. Funnily enough I first learned about hubpages from watching a webinar about how to make money online where the presenters claimed some people got thousands of dollars a day following their methods. A lot of what they talked about was actually quite useful, for instance go deep into your subject instead of spreading out doing many different ones. But at the end of the webinar they had a gimmick of only a few people being able to sign up for a special course which normally cost $2000 dollars, but I could get for a huge discount price of $1000! Instead I looked up Hubpages and started writing! One of the things that made me suspicious of their claims was they had an example where someone supposedly earned huge sums from an affiliate link on wordpress.com. You’re not allowed affiliate links on WP.com.
I’ve also seen someone proudly trying to sell his foolproof method of earning millions on-line that he openly admitted was stolen from his old employers.
